Primary Ideas Generation Techniques

Creativity and Television

There are hundreds of creativity techniques devised by organizations and individuals. Though they are good there is a problem of learning and remembering so many of them and then selecting a suitable one for our use. I have pondered over this problem for a long time.

Since I defined creativity as making the connection, I tried to make a connection of creativity techniques with something that is simple yet have many variations. Finally, I found it! I found that I could compare creativity techniques with the color television. The TV screen shows millions of colors yet they were produced by only three primary spectral colors of red, green and blue.

Using the same principle, I came to the conclusion that the creativity techniques could be classified into three primary categories, each with its own anchor technique:

Craziness, Fantasy and Visualization
The anchor technique here is the
Brainstorming

Randomness
The anchor technique is " Making Forced Connections"

Features, Characteristics and Attributes
The anchor technique is "Breaking Rules"

Like learning any other skill, you have to first familiarize yourself with the three primary techniques before trying to adapt,  modify or combine them in different ways. Do not feel constrained by the techniques described. Once you grasp the basis and significance of the creativity techniques , you could even create your own. This is what creativity is all about.
